Major River in Garissa River Ewaso Nyiro: Lifeline of the North The boundaries between Garissa and Isiolo, and Garissa and Wajir, are roughly demarcated by the River Ewaso Nyiro's drainway. It rises on the western side of Mount Kenya and flows north, then east to water the dry plains that stretch east from the Great Rift Valley – in Laikipia, Isiolo, Samburu and Marsabit counties – before reaching Garissa County.
