Mombasa Golf Course: A Gem Since 1911

Mombasa Golf Club, backdropped by the city line over a wide-angled seafacing view, is the pinnacle of golf on Mombasa Island. From the first tee and every angle takes on a different identity on the neat as a pin fairways next to a jarring rough by the oceanfront – the main seller. Set at southeastern corner of the Island along Mama Ngina Drive, this course places a premium on careful shot selection and putting. It is a combination of a beautiful natural setting and a golf course that is both challenging and fun. Begun on June 27th, 1911, over the years spending huge sums of money to update the 9-hole course, its beautifully manicured fairways and greens are hemmed in by fleek dunes mixed with native grasses and bunkers. Its revered tournament, Barry Cup, was first played in 1913 and won by Mr. Percy Berry, then honorary treasurer and captain, who went on to win the cup in the next four years. Barry Cup has been played under Kenya Golf Union since 1928.
