A miniature template of the place that broke itself, more popular as the Marafa Depression in Kilifi County in the coast region of Kenya, Muranga Gorges are equally as fascinating as they are spectral. On the scale of size and origin they are opposite-number to Olduka Valley situated north of Mogotio in Baringo County, being certainly larger than the deep carved ravines of Melwa Gorge in Elgeyo Marakwet County. All are absolutely magnificent and wonderful in their vastness.

What is common among all these fascinating and photogenic sites is that they are the result of river action. In Muranga County, at the not so widely-known Muranga gorges, the river has cut a deep, narrow valley with steep, rocky walls, carving, by the erosive action, over long periods of time, narrow ridges with lofty earth pillars. The result is a dramatic geological formation, showcasing the power of natural forces of water typifies by vertical cliffs, ribbed spires, and a colourful landscape.
