英文原文
Excepting the higher reaches of its uplands and hills, Makueni County is almost entirely a semi-arid block, often facing water scarcity. Successive governments over the decades have made efforts to avert the pressing water crises, severe as climate change rears its ugly face in the glow of the hot African sun. Around the county are about a dozen reservoir dams, which include Kamunyulo, Manooni, Katilini, Ka Mbila, Ndukuma, West Ngosini, Kii Nzou,Kinze, Mulima, Mbasya and Njau, engendered to promote livelihoods. Mulima dam in Mbooni is particularly important agriculture, with its natural forests, plantation forests, wetlands, and productive climate. To enhance water availability in Mbooni earth dam and its surroundings, the County Government is in the process of rehabilitating the earth dam. Presently with a capacity of 0.1 million litres active storage capacity. Mulima Dam, relying on harvesting surface runoff during rainfall, is still underutilized.
Kenya has several reservoir dams that play a consequential roles in water supply, hydroelectric power generation, irrigation, flood control, and other water-related activities. The most famous of these are Seven Forks Dams along the Tana River. While reservoir dams are critical infrastructure projects that contribute to Kenya’s economic development, they are also visually stunning go-to destinations.
