The trail to Maragua Dam and Maragua Falls, nearby Githagara Shopping Center, is an adventure off the beaten path that is, as the earnest hikers and walkers affirm, serene, and truly sold short. It is not a developed trails, so some asking around is warranted, and a local guide extremely useful. As the destination grows in regard, so have the locals become accustomed to guiding tours. A token in kind goes a long way to motivate and encourage the often perky, jovial and friendly local folk.

The adventure to both Maragua Dam and Maragua Falls, is centered on Mathioya River, one of the many rivers in the Central Highlands that drain the Aberdare Ranges.
