Midpoint between Kiboko and the turnoff into B7 Kibwezi-Ikutha-Kitui Road sits the modest town of Makindu; distance from Nairobi 171 km. The center of interest at Makindu for many generations now is the Makindu Sikh Temple built in 1926. Its origin, however, dates back to 1898 as a meeting place for the Sikhs working on the infamous Lunatic Line more proper the Uganda Railway turned post-haste to a popular stop for travellers wishing to pay their respects to Waheguru, and as a halfway-house with kitchen facilities. One of the most endearing hallmarks about the Makindu Sikh Temple is, although donations are accepted, the average meal and accommodation for callers to the temple have always been free of charge.

Quite unmistakable for its detailed and remarkable architecture and details within a cluster of simple rural brick holdings to the side of the A109 Road, the temple, spanning 5000 m2, was before 1926 a tiny tin-roof shack where the Sikhs prayed and where Guru Sahib was housed.
