英文原文
Migori County, akin to many of the counties with a temperate climate, has a great many dams, many of them small in private farms. What sets Kebharisia Dam apart is that it sited just a few metres to the side of the road. You simply step off your vehicle, up the small embarkment, and enjoy the views of the dam, briefly, then wend your way across the bucolic landscape. That is to also say, Kebharisia Dam should not be considered a destination in of itself, but rather a roadside attraction. From Migori town, southeast bound, it is 40 km to Kebharisia Dam via C13 Migori-Kehancha-Nyamiencho Road, shortly before arriving at the Komotobo Mission.
Generally speaking, dams in Migori play a critical role in supporting the county’s agricultural and domestic water needs, particularly in the regions where rainfall is insufficient. Climate change has led to water shortages in several dams, reducing their capacity. Even so, as the population continues to grow and climate change impacts water availability, the importance of properly managing and expanding these dams becomes increasingly critical. New dam projects in Migori County, like Mwache and Koru dams, also aim to address some of these challenges, but there is also a need for sustainable management and conservation of existing dams.
Kenya has several reservoir dams that play a consequential roles in water supply, hydroelectric power generation, irrigation, flood control, and other water-related activities. The most famous of these are Seven Forks Dams along the Tana River. While reservoir dams are critical infrastructure projects that contribute to Kenya’s economic development, they are also visually stunning go-to destinations.
