From Voi a murram car track runs up through the Kiteghe center and Rukanda village for 60 km to the base of Mount Kasigau. A few sections of the road are recommended for 4X4s although it is generally motorable for all saloon vehicles during the dry seasons. An alternative equidistant route can be taken by driving out south from Voi via the A109 to Maungu then taking a turnoff onto a murram track that brings you up to the camp in 30 km. Kasigau Base Camp is well off the popular circuit and is a wonderful hermitage for the camper, walker and birder.

Surrounding the camp, at the base of Mount Kasigau, is the quintessential African bushland, forest and mountain scenery. All together forming a wildly-scenic set. The camp sits at a picturesque point on the north side of the mountain, with three simple rondavels, all with high-pitched thatched roofs over concrete floors and walls. Each of the bedrooms has a different layout: bedroom 1 (double bed, 2 single beds), bedroom 2 (4 single beds) and bedroom 3 (4 single beds) accented with in-built banquette corner seats, flushing toilet, shower and an outdoor area.

There is a kitchen and common lounge. Kasigau Camp is fitted with solar powered lights. Once well rested, an early morning to explore Mount Kasigau will have you back in camp for a late lunch. It takes on average 5 to 8 hours to climb and back, although longer tours can be arranged. A short, steep walk is made out of camp over a land that is rocky. The ascent through the saddle is not too difficult walking through switchbacks of forest and bush. Guides can be arranged via the camp. An alternative place to stay near Mount Kasigua is Kiteghe Bandas found at Kiteghe.
