Next to Fourteen Falls in Machakos County, one of the most iconic and powerful sheet waterfalls in Kenya, the second best of its kind is Ikwa Falls. Little-known and playing second fiddle in Tharaka Nithi County to the larger and more popular Kibuuka Grand Falls, Ikwa Falls along Kathita River is more aesthetically pleasing. Cascading as a sheet waterfalls, also known as curtain waterfalls, its water flows in a continuous pall, in twelve small even belts over the rock face, maintaining a wide, uniform curtain of water as they descend. At most times of the year the Ikwa Falls forms a pretty 30 ms-wide cascade. It is rather exemplary soon after the rain season when the falls extends to about 50 ms-wide. After the rains it is made up of about 15 separate falls. Situated deep in the neck of the woods, an afternoon look-see of Ikwa Falls is a no-frills all thrills return to nature expedition. Ikwa Falls is situated at Marimanti 31 km before Ura Gate into Meru National Park.
