Historic Ruins along Kenya's Coast Uyombo Ruins: A Modern Treasure Hunt Uyombo is situated a bit inland from the south side of Mida Creek. It is a very ruined mosque in the bush, its mihrab fallen. The only thing of interest is a long conduit, about one metre high, running from a well that is still in use to a cistern that was located at the southeast corner of the mosque. Another cistern and wall close by are from a ruined house. Tucked between Watamu National Marine Park and Arabuko Sokoke forest, Uyombo is an iconic study in unique marine diversity. Naturally grown mangroves, pristine clean beaches, coconut canopies and chic hotels, one need not dig deep to understand why the residents of Uyombo have come out strongly against the proposed nuclear power plant in their community. There are dozens of well-studied and accessible historic sites along the Kenya's Coast. Some of the historic sites located here are composed of the old settlement towns and outlying groups of tombs.
