Tree Top Hut: Overlooking Saiwa Swamp

Tree Top Hut at Saiwa Swamp National Park, consisting of two single beds, for a maximum of two, is a tiny house with big views. It enjoys the best vantage of the 3 km gamut of swamp and forest. Electricity, beddings, bath linens and toiletries are provided. It does not have an on-site kitchen. Guests are advised to carry cooked food. Otherwise, guests can prepare food from the nearby campsite kitchen hut.

Running water, eco-friendly toilets, and an evening camp fire are also included. The center of interest at Tree Top House is its roomy sun-awning verandah. With the changing weather and seasons, perched on a sturdy tree in the heart of the park, it is a surpassing private lookout surrounded by birdsong and rustling leaves – for hours on end it soothers the soul and spirit. Built from natural materials like wood and bamboo, the design, integrating a natural structure, is rather pleasant.

The vegetation about the clearing around Tree Top House is predominantly made up of reeds, papyrus, and other water-loving plants. The surrounding area also includes forested sections that provide additional habitats for various species. The wetland ecosystem provides excellent opportunities for landscape and wildlife photography. The compact size of Saiwa Swamp makes it easy to explore on foot.

Famous as the home to the rare and elusive Sitatunga antelope, Saiwa Swamp National park is Kenya’s smallest national park and boasts a unique gamut great for nature-lovers. Park highlights include: the Saiwa swamp, Sitatunga antelope, boardwalk, birding and educational talks. You can also spot the rare Sitatunga as well as a motley collection of birds. It’s relatively easy to access, near Kitale town.
