Teremi Falls
Waterfalls in Bungoma Teremi Falls: A Gem of Mount Elgon C42 Kimilili-Bokori-Bungoma Road through Nalondo is a widely-popular route. Many prefer it as it is shorter, and the drive, through the country via Kabuchai Hills, beautiful. The alternative route via Kimilili-Teremi-Chwele-Bungoma is almost twice as long, but goes past fascinating sites. Either way, the surrounding landscapes is a mix lush vegetation, rocky cliffs, farmlands and vibrant villages. Teremi, an area lying on the southern slopes of Mount Elgon, is stamped with several steep cliffs. Teremi Falls occurs on one of these cliffs, where River Kyuwa flows over a vertical drop, maintaining contact with rocks, in splendid wonder. It begins as a narrowed cascade at the top of the cliff, before rushing down in a horsetail to the plunge pool. River Kyuwa rises near the summit of Mount Elgon. At the base of Teremi Falls, the rivers gradually level out on the gently undulating land to a slow-flowing meandering channel. At hand is the confluence of River Kyuwa and Nzoia, where the river suddenly swells up. There are some walking trails around Teremi Falls. In 1981, engineers conducted a feasibility study for Teremi Falls hydro-power project. The results concluded the project was feasible.
