Historic Churches in Tana River St. Jude Church, Bura: An Odd Cathedral Most Catholic churches in Kenya are built with a lighter style of monochrome brick walls, with decorative arches and buttresses of bright marble or similar kind of uniform finish. In 2000, the southern part of Garissa Diocese (Wema, Garsen, Mpeketoni and Lamu) was detached from the Diocese of Garissa to form part of the Diocese of Malindi. This covers 142,704 km2 and has seven parishes: Garissa, Hola, Bura, Wajir, Mandera, Bura, Emmaus and Wenje with a following of 813,330 people. St. Jude Cathedral is situated at Bura.
