Mua Hills Tented Camp: Mua Hills
The charming eco-friendly Mua Hills Tented Camp, in picturesque surroundings nestled amidst the tranquil landscapes of Mua Hills, offers a serene getaway with stunning views, comfortable accommodation, and opportunities for nature walks, birdwatching, and cultural experiences. It is about 2–3 hours’ drive from Nairobi, about 100 km. Most visitors to Mua Hills Tented Camp opt for the tented rooms, which are well-furnished safari-style tents with private verandas, hot showers, and eco-friendly designs. Still, there is an option for self-catering camping on well kept ground with amenities. There is an onsite restaurant, with provision for group BBQ. The best time to visit is, undoubtedly, during the dry season; January–March.
The drive along both C97 Makutano-Machakos-Kitui Road and C99 Machokos-Kangundo Road cuts through the eye-catching landscape of the U or crescent-shaped Mua Hills, which dominate much of the southern and eastern areas of Machakos County. Mua Hills, more proper a continuous unvarying range, trend northeasterly from Kyumvi and the A104 turnoff to Machakos Town, astride the C97, to Ngelani (inner limit) and Mitaboni (outer limit) from where they swing southerly to terminate close to Machakos. Considerable erosion and cut-backs by the raging rivers, which mostly drain west, gives Mua its precipitous appearance.
Camping is much more than a pleasant holiday, it’s a great way to truly enjoy Kenya. An inexpensive and indulging do-it-yourself holiday. In the warm Kenyan sun, camping is a way of life the intrepid spiritedly remembers. It is a memorable outdoor activity to carry out whether you are single, as a couple, or as a family.

Part of the larger Ukambani alongside Kitui and Makueni, Machakos County is a nexus between Maasailand, the coast region, the central highlands, and Nairobi. The northern area of Machakos, being a dormitory zone for the capital of Nairobi and a peri-urban buffer for Kiambu, is developed with useful amenities. Southerly heading the ecology is continually semi-arid and the countryside more desolate.
