Makuyu Golf Club: Wonky, But Keeping On

Founded in 1933, with its first tournament held the following year in 1934, the 9-hole Makuyu Golf Club, featuring more browns than there are greens, is sited off the A1 Nairobi-Nanyuki-Moyale Road, at Makuyu. The 90-acre covered by the golf club, which is completely encircled by Kakuzi Ranch, is privately held. The 9-hole golf course measures 5447 yards, played to a par 70. One of its highlights is the backdrop of Ol Donyo Sabuk (Mt. Kilima Mbogo) and the wooded landscape around Kakuzu Ranch. Makuyu Golf Club offers various kinds of membership including single-day membership access. It hosts Carnival Golf Tournament in May. Other amenities: club house, badminton, volleyball, lawn tennis and darts.
