Karurina Falls
Waterfalls in Embu Karurina Falls: No Longer A Secret Waterfalls are photogenic. Beautiful to behold. Some are more hidden than others. Others require some considerable effort in walking and hiking to get to. Still others are hidden in plain sight, waiting to be discovered with, surprisingly, little effort. Among the little-known waterfalls in Embu County is Karurina Falls, situated 6 km from the main town. It's not out of the way, but it feels secretive. It is a scenically-splendid plunge falls, with a 40 ms vertical drop steering away from the rock surface. Karurina Falls drops in a single, powerful drop, creating a dramatic effect. Thanks to its powerful plunge, the falls has also created a deep pool at the base. And yes, you guessed it! The pool is a popular swimming or recreation spots for the locals. Even without the possibility of taking a dip in the pool, the impact of water hitting the base of the waterfall generates mist and spray, which contribute to the atmosphere and cooling effect around the falls. The rocks around the falls add to the beauty of the scene: Waterfalls wouldn’t sound so melodious if there were no rocks in their way. What is more is the cave behind the waterfalls. Karurina Falls is situated 6 km from Embu town. You head out on the B7 Embu-Siakago Road for 3 km. At Riva Petrol Station you turn left towards Karurina for 3 km, past Karurina Catholic Church enroute to the falls.
