Finlay’s: Formerly James Finlay’s Tea Estate
Finlays is one of many factories within Kericho township running informative tours that engage trippers through the process involved in making Kenya’s high-minded brands of tea. As one of the famous big-wheel tea trade names in Kenya, being in operation since 1750, the large tea growing estates, formerly part of James Finlay’s Kenya, were sold to Browns Investments PLC in May 2023, rebranded simply as Finlays, they plant, pluck and prepare millions of kilograms of quality high grown black, green and organic teas, to the great benefit of the 9,500 people. It employs and supports the community to churn about 23 million kgs of tea in their Kericho estate. During the tour of Finlays Tea Factory, visitors learn about fermentation, dying, cutting, sieving and tea-grading, and, of course, a taste of their “perfect cuppa”, with biscuits. Excepting business meetings, visiting the farm requires you to make prior arrangement. Finlays Tea Factory is located about 2.8 from Kericho Town, off B1 Kericho-Kisumu Road nearby Kericho School of Professional Studies.
