Bagao Caves: Walk About in Ainamoi
Reresik Caves at Ainamoi, Chebulu Caves at Belgut, Bagao Caves at Ainamoi, and Sogo Caves, are among the prominent caves in Kericho County. All have exciting prospects for an afternoon walk about. These isolated caves, all near-horizontal shafts set within the moderate relief of Kericho, are bonny and scenic, as well as being cultural passage into the intriguing Kipsigis culture. Untravelled and under developed these caves still remain untapped in the touring circuits, but, there are plans to put up site borders and to train community guides to assist the visitor navigate these four caves. The most promising, Bagao Caves in Aimamoi, located midway between Kericho town and Fort Ternan, are beautiful, with a treacherous walk to get to. Still, there are is a waterfalls, water pools and stunning scenery enroute. Bagao Caves have a long running tunnel underground. No one knows how far they go but are inhabited by bats. Its dark inside with clear water, with several tunnels leading in different directions. Much of the 3 km long trail and site is especially slippery after the rains, frequent in these region, so remember to ear sturdy shoes and due care along the slippy stretches with a mudcaked underfoot.
