Began in 1997, Colobus Conservation Trust along Diani Beach Road works towards improving the conservation, protection and preservation of primates which, at the South Coast, include the nationally threatened Angolan Colobus monkeys, their consanguine; Vervet and Sykes monkeys, and baboons; as well as their associated coastal-forest habitats and enrichment of their frangible ecosystems. Towards this end, Colobus Conservation pioneered the innovative construction of the flexible ladders which are strung across the roads of Diani at treetop height to cut down on rampant road kills. It also prompted the insulation of a handful of the deadly power lines, which were taking a heavy toll on the population of Colobus at Diani.

Visitors to the Colobus Conservation Trust get to sight troops of monkeys in their familiar mischief, some jumping on a trampoline, some scurrying on the ground, some leaping in the canopies, and still others, rather unfazed, just attending to the social structure rub-down. All this is interesting to observe during an hour long guided primate tour winding along the peaceful and lovely nature trails. There’s also a useful information centre. Colobus Conservation is open Monday through Saturday, 8am to 5pm. Entry charges in Kes: Resident Adult 250, Child (7-11 yr) 200; Non-Citizen Adult 750, Non-Citizen Child 250. It is located 5.4 km south of Diani Mall, between Raydon Watersports (north) and H20 Extreme Diani (south).
